Italian Sketchbook Series

The Sketchbook Series began as a kind of scrapbook of the “stuff” of travel—ticket stubs, souvenir sacks, maps, postcards, and art reproductions I’d pasted in a sketchbook during a month long trip to Florence, Italy.  I began filling the pages with compulsive ballpoint pen drawings, letting each page dictate its own imagery.

This body of work is layered on paper, with ballpoint pen and  white gel pen drawings, some using oil paint as well.  All are dipped in purified beeswax and mounted on board,  Edges are either black beeswax or gold leaf.
